Working with Yvonne has been the best thing that ever happened to me....
On the day of the surgery, the surgeon told me, very coldly, that I was too fat for a general
anaesthetic. I was 111kg (244pounds) bearing in mind that I am only 5"1.
I felt so embarrassed and humiliated that I almost refused the surgery.
As a positive person that I am and a firm believer that everything happens for a reason,
whilst I was recovering, I started looking for a gym club.
Meanwhile, after so many months without hearing from each other, Yvonne, my friend and
our nutritionist, reached me. I told her what had happened at the hospital.
Unbelievably, she told me she had done a nutrition course, and my head was spinning for
such a great coincidence.
We set the plan in motion straight away.
I started my journey with Yvonne in July. The support she was giving me was priceless and
what I really needed. Someone to believe that I can lose the weight gained due to the
menopause.
She started by giving me a meal plan, and I started going to the gym 4 times a week,
attending dance fitness, aqua zumba, and zumba.
The meals were a challenge in the beginning because I was not keen on having breakfast
because it was not part of my habits. Today, breakfast is what I enjoy the most because it is
so different every day.
The challenges I encountered were mostly financially, but I got around it by shopping wisely.
I go to Asda and Farmfoods for frozen vegetables and buying in bulk.
I started planning my meals in advance and prepared for the week.
It is not easy as I work full time as a Team Coordinator for NHS.
But it is worth all my sacrifice because your actions become your habits.
I do not believe that I could achieve losing 10kg without her meal plans and her
unconditional support and her belief that I could do it.

And it was an eye-opening experience. Initially, I was confident and thought I was already doing great. I didn’t think I needed the challenge, but decided to take part and see what I could learn.
It didn’t take long for me to realise that there were areas I hadn’t considered. I was using brown sugar and honey, assuming they were better alternatives, but Yvonne helped me understand that there were even better ways to limit my sugar intake.
She kept me informed throughout with practical tips and healthy substitutes for sugary foods. Even when I went on holiday, Yvonne provided useful advice to help me stay on track, reminding me that it’s okay to start again if I slipped up.
